Daylight Saving (Did you know it doesn’t have an “S” on the end?)

You know those weekends you have sometimes when you feel like you need a weekend to recover from your weekend?  Yeah?  Well that’s the kind of weekend we just had.  It was a lot of fun but it involved a lot of running around, a lot of driving and just a lot of activity.  I’m ready for a few quiet days at home just following Julia’s cues, going to sleep early, and being at home as a family!  Luckily we don’t have too many plans this week.

Where to begin?  I guess it started on Thursday… my friend Holly flew in to New Orleans late Wednesday night and she spent the day with our friend Cady on Thursday.  After work on Thursday, Julia and I went to meet Cady & Holly for a walk in Audubon Park.  Ken was on call that night, so after the walk, I went home with Julia, ate some dinner and put her to sleep.  3.11.2013

Friday I came to work in the morning, and then left early to take Julia to her 5-month check-up.  At her check up she weighed 13 lbs. 5.6 oz. and measured 24 and 3/4 of an inch.  The doctor asked all the usual questions–about her eating, her sleeping, developmental milestones, etc. and said that from everything I told her it sounds like we have a very healthy and happy little 5-month old!  After her appointment, we went out to lunch with Holly & Cady and then walked around Magazine Street for a while.  3.11.2013.2

Friday night after much debate, Ken, Holly and I went out to dinner at a hot-dog place on Freret Street called Dat Dog.  After dinner we came home and I put the baby to sleep while Ken & Holly watched TV.

Saturday morning after we were all awake, Ken, Holly, Julia and I walked all the way from our house down to the French Quarter!  We had breakfast at IHOP after walking by several places we would have rather gone to that were too busy and had long waits to get in, then we went to the Audubon Insectarium.Insectarium

After the Insectarium, Julia was starting to get fussy so we walked home and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.   Saturday night we all (Ken, Holly, Cady, Julia & I) went to dinner at Domenica!dinner

Sunday was  yet another busy day!  We all went out to brunch in the morning, and then Holly, Julia and I went on a swamp tour (WARNING TO MY MOTHER: PHOTOS OF ALLIGATORS!).  Swamp Tour2

The photo above was of a mother alligator watching after about 5-6 baby alligators.  It’s hard to see them but there were about 5-6 baby alligators hanging out in that vegetation in the lower right corner of the photo.

So as you can see from all the photos, it was a very busy weekend!

I learned one very important lesson this weekend that I was bound to learn eventually.  That lesson is that, for better or for worse, sometimes having a baby can change the relationship you have with certain friends.  Having a baby has allowed to meet many new friends who I never would otherwise have met.  I’ve met new friends through the baby play group at The Parenting Center and through the La Leche League.  But having a baby has also changed the friendships I had before the baby was born.  I’ve grown closer to some friends and I’ve drifted apart from others.  That’s just a fact of life in many ways–as our lives go on and the paths we are on curve and veer, we are bound to make new friends, become closer with some and drift apart from others.  And that’s okay!

So after the fun weekend we just had, here’s to a quiet week ahead!
